Launceston’s St Cecilia School of Music director Matthews Tyson recently announced that an agreement between southern Italy and the school has been made, with St Cecilia to provide music performance examinations in Salerno, Italy.
Mr Tyson said the agreement was an honour, creating strong links between two regions sharing similar identities.
“We are honoured to be the selected examinations board for Italy,” he said.

St Cecilia’s progressive Concert Certificate examination system has been developed to align with the Italian system, Biennale dell Arti e dell Scienze del Mediterraneo Associazone (BIMED).
Mr Tyson said students who undertake their music examinations through St Cecilia will have additional international recognition.
He will travel to southern Italy in March to run a two-week examiner training session before Italy’s first examination period in May.
“The hard work to establish a truly all-inclusive, progressive system of high-standard music performance examinations over the past 44 years has paid off,” Mr Tyson said.
