On January 17, Premier Will Hodgman announced nine projects will be funded in the Northern Midlands region.
Health Revival Longford will receive a $1 million grant to upgrade its facilities. Facility managing director Leah Coker-Williams said the upgrade was an asset to the council-owned building.
“Because we improve the health of the community, it gives benefits to the whole health system out here as well,” Miss Coker-Williams said.
The upgrade will include a larger gym, a children’s play area, a purpose built aerobics area, upgrades to toilets and change room facilities, as well as development of a kitchen, physio room and a boardroom.
Northern Midlands mayor David Downie said the project was great.
“It allows us to bring projects we’ve had on our plans for the last four years forward so we can do them this year, so communities will benefit having those facilities sooner than later,” he said.
“It’s things like in Campbell Town they wanted lights on the oval … it means we’ll be able to do that this year.”
That upgrade is part of a $1 million project to improve lighting of sporting facilities.
Evandale Football Club will also receive a sum.
Toosey Aged Care Facility will also receive $1.9 million for an extension.
“We’re very happy to be able to help the Toosey … that is a facility that is very well used an respected by the community. Whatever their plans are, they’re much needed,” Councillor Downie said.
“From these projects there’ll be an increase in activity which leads to jobs and prosperity.”
Other developments include a $1 million upgrade to the Campbell Town Recreation Ground and Storm Water Land Acquisition, amenities upgrade for the Cressy Recreation Ground and Longford Recreation Ground change room facilities.
Ross Town Square will be developed, along with municipal concrete path development and a disabled access upgrade to the council car park.
