The under-15 4x400m record of 3:46.5 set on November 15, 1975, at St Patrick’s College oval by Garry Hennessy (Deloraine), Tim Shegog (Riverside), Jason Cox (Cressy) and Donal McIntee (Prospect) has been eclipsed.
The new mark of 3:45.28 was set by Lucas Galvin-Ridge (Youngtown), Ethan Crossingham (St Helens), Daniel Nicholas (Newnham) and Isaac Chugg (Cressy) who delivered a 53-second last lap to clinch the record.
McIntee witnessed the run at St Leonards and was among the first to congratulate the boys.
He still holds Northern records at under-14 level with 200m at 24.3 and 400m 54.7 and also claimed two Victorian schoolboy championships.
Ironically, McIntee and Cox were also involved in the only older record on the Northern books, the under-14 4x100m relay set in 1974.
