Green Front Group
ANNE Layton-Bennett asks why I have criticised Let’s Grow Tasmania’s Future and labelled it a Green front group (Examiner, January 11).

Apart from its offensive and misleading ads, it claims not to be “anti-salmon farming” when clearly it is exactly that.
Secondly, it says it is “non-party political” despite a search showing its website linked to an email address belonging to Graeme Wood.
Mr Wood – whose $2.1 million donations to the Greens include the largest by an individual in Australian political history – has since admitted his involvement.
Environment Tasmania, another Green front group, has also owned up to its participation with the group.
The group’s own website lists only four individuals other than Mr Wood, plus another supposed “grassroots organisation”, Marine Protection Tasmania, which is totally opposed to salmon farming in Tasmania but also has a slick website with no details of who is behind them.
I take community concerns seriously and the community has a right to know who is behind these anti-salmon farming and anti-jobs expensive and misleading ads.
It should be noted that the Government has commissioned an independent assessment of salmon farming in Okehampton Bay on Tasmania's East Coast.
Guy Barnett, Liberal Member for Lyons.
Untidy city
I TOTALLY agree with Peter Wilson (The Examiner, January 12). The condition of the streets, dividing strips, footpaths, roundabouts are a disgrace to the city of Launceston and the surrounding suburbs. It was once known as the Garden City, but not anymore.
As an example just look at the divider in Talbot Road and the beginning of High Street.
As well Trevallyn Road verges and embankments need some urgent attention.
These are only part of the problem of a city that has some beautiful parks but is let down by its untidy appearance.
Helen Howard, Cressy.
Rip off
WITH the ongoing saga of the pollies happily spending our money on jaunts various, we now have the Trade Minister telling us that it’s fine to go and watch an AFL match, because he was in a corporate box at the invitation of the businessman concerned.
It doesn’t take much imagination to realise how much serious business is being conducted.
Do they watch the game, or do they sit at the back of the box, notepads and secretaries handy and talk turkey over a glass of cordial?
What do you think they do?
I know what I think and the sheer arrogance of the man to sit there and declare it’s all okay takes the breath away.
Richard Hill, Newstead.
Politicians
YOU must realise that once elected to parliament, the most ordinary of men and women become in the Biblical sense "not as other men and women".
Election to the most exclusive of all Australian clubs raises them up to much great heights bestowing greater financial and pension benefits as surely as it elevates them to greater intelligence and an all-knowing elevation far above ordinary mortals.
This curious fact explains why we have an increasing number of children and pensioners living in poverty.
It explains why we cannot afford to support our population with better health care and educational facilities.
If only we lesser mortals could understand these things we would not have to vote for alternative representatives.
Surely it cannot be true that our traditional party representatives have let us down.
Could such a notion even be thinkable?
