“We hope the work will start as soon as we can go through the tender process but this is a great economic stimulus and great fiscal management of government funds to bring forward projects that we had in our pipeline anyway so that communities can benefit from them sooner,” he said. The council was the first across the North to be announced as a successful applicant for a state government loan under the Northern Economic Stimulus Package.
Projects to be brought forward include $1 million for the development of the Longford Community Sports Centre Master Plan, $1 million for lighting at sports facilities and $1.9 million for an extension at the Toosey Aged Care Facility.
A range of projects, totaling more than $1.2 million, will also be rolled out across the Central Coast municipality under the scheme.
The nine projects to be brought forward in the Northern Midlands are:
- Campbell Town Recreation Ground and Stormwater Land Acquisition ($1m)
- Cressy Recreation Ground Amenities Upgrade ($220,000)
- Longford Recreation Ground Change Room Upgrades ($550,000)
- Ross Town Square Development ($300,000)
- Council Office Carpark and Disabled Access Extension ($200,000)
- New Concrete Footpath Program ($250,000)
- Longford Community Sports Centre Master Plan Development ($1m)
