But the Tasmanian track world champion said she surprised herself following a strong result in her Women’s Tour debut with her new racing team, Wiggle High5, in South Australia.
The West Pine dual Olympian said although new to the top-level competition and having focused on the track for so long beforehand, she was pleased with how things played out on the road.
“It was my first ride on the road for a little while and was my first time doing the Tour Down Under so it was good to be able to compete there,” the 24-year-old said.
“And I think I really surprised myself actually.
“I’ve been a bit sick recently with bronchitis so I wasn’t going in expecting anything but it played out really well.
“I think I positioned myself well over the four days and I was happy with how I played my role for the team.”
Cure finished in 65th position overall in general classification, 5:13 off the lead, with a best result of 48th in stage four on Tuesday.
Launceston’s Holly Ranson (Mercedes Adelaide Blackchrome) was 84th, 16:12 behind the winner Chloe Hosking
Cure said she was pleased with how she was able to adapt to the road during the competition and the prestigious race gave her the perfect platform ahead of a busy few months.
Cure now has her sights set on the Cadel Evans Road Race to be held in Melbourne next week.
