Tournament director Graham Moloney said 48 players would complete 72 holes over three days in a bid to take home some silverware.
Moloney said golfers aged 13 to 17 years from Tasmania, ACT, South Australia, Victoria, Queensland and NSW would make up the field.
“It is a difficult course at Greens Beach because of what they call a kikuyu grass and also the breeze being on the foreshore,” Moloney said.
“Queenslanders especially find it tough because of the lies on the fairways.
“The greens are very good compared to this event last year where apart from the greens it was played in dust.
“We had one of the driest summers ever and we only had enough water to do the greens.”
The tournament is an Australian junior ranking event and has been held at Greens Beach for the past 11 years.
Victorian Matias Sanchez (boys) and Queensland’s Kirsty Hodgkins (girls) took out last year’s crowns with Devonport’s Joel Lunson, Prospect Vale’s Ryan Thomas, Strahan’s Brady Ludbey, Kingston Beach’s Gus Burrell and Tasmania’s Zahara Lemon are among those hoping to bring the cup back home.
Interstate raiders likely to feature prominently this year include Harrison Crowe (NSW) and Mitch Varley (QLD), who are both off scratch in the boys draw.
In the girls, June Song (NSW), Casey Cook (NSW) and Sarah Wilson Jnr (QLD) are the ones to watch.
