Petrol prices
HERE we go again, no sooner the world barrel price of oil increases, it's an instant price rise at the petrol bowser (up to 20 cents a litre in some parts of the state).

Yet you can bet your bottom dollar, when the world oil price drops, for some unknown (and mystical reason), prices at the pump take their time to come back down in proportion.
To quote Pauline Hanson "Please explain".

Launceston General Hospital
MY 88 year old father, who lived on his own in Lilydale, recently suffered a severe blood infection. He was hospitalised for almost three weeks in the Acute Medical Ward (AMU) at Launceston General Hospital.
Sadly, he has since passed away, but the level of care he received in the AMU was exemplary. The doctors and nurses were all highly professional and diligent.
I didn't think for a second that my father could have received better care anywhere else. I am aware of some of the broader concerns about health care in Tasmania but can only speak of my own experience.
The AMU did a fine job helping my father. They deserve high praise and I can't thank them enough.

Donald Trump
ONLY a few days before the drainer of the swamp in America takes office.
His swamp seems to be swarming with enormously wealthy cronies and his family to boot.
He has appointed his son-in-law as chief advisor, his daughter appears to be occupying the First Lady's rooms and the first lady herself is holed up in Trump Tower costing the nation millions in security.
Far from draining the swamp it seems Donald Trump is filling it up with even more crocodiles who all have something in common - millions and millions of dollars and not many with experience of running and enormous country.

Entitlements and Centrelink
WHAT is going on in the decent country?
In November Social Services Minister Alan Tudge and his colleagues ordered the new random audit on those who had at some point required a welfare payment.
My friend was shocked and disturbed when asked to repay at short notice $2796.58 supposed overclaim from 2010.
Fortunately she had kept records from that time and CentreLink wasted a lot of financial energy to find that they actually owed her $5, that they say they are now unable to pay her.
Is this the new age of entitlement in the lucky country, where those who have lots can declare those who have little, guilty until proven innocent?

West Tamar Highway
VISITORS travelling on the West Tamar Highway get to know the financial nature of Tasmania with the grass on the sides of the highway as high as the road advisory signs in a lot of places.
What a beautiful place for a good bushfire to start.
Visitors are asking is Tasmania that broke for the highway to be in such a disgraceful condition?
Bob Silberberg, Beauty Point.
Homeless in Tasmania
MALCOLM Scott (Letters to Editor, January 10) hits the nail on the head with "Charity begins at home".
Our homeless numbers are at a critical level, to which any of the Charities will attest.
Let's look after these people first.
