Christmas can be a lonely time, especially for those living with the financial worries gift giving brings and the impending utilities bill that lands through the door just after the festive cheer has subsided.
The advice from City Mission, Launceston is to seek help now.
“My advice to those worried about finances, food and gifts over the Christmas period is to seek help and don’t leave it till the last minute,” said Brian Roach, communication relations manager.
“Our family service counsellors are available to meet with those who need assistance.”
Advice will be on hand for those in need of advice and counselling, food, clothing and Christmas gifts.
Parents seeking Christmas gifts for their children are urged to get in touch.
“It is important for parents and children to have a sense of normality around the festive period, we have our toy distribution centre setup almost like a toy shop and parents can select gifts for their children from there,” said Brian.
“While gifts aren’t the main focus of Christmas, it is still rewarding to be a part of the Christmas joy that giving and receiving gifts brings.”
Brain also urged those who do not qualify for help from City Mission to still use their shops as a method of cutting costs.
