The project, which will include a new kitchen, a remodelled classroom and extensions to the cafe, will get under way in February and should be completed by April.
Scottsdale High School principal Jeanna Bolton-Dean said the upgrade would benefit students pursuing a career in hospitality and the school as a whole.
“Our students are really excited for the opportunities this offers the North-East community,” Ms Bolton-Dean said.
“A number of our students already have employment in the hospitality industry so it complements the skills that they need in that area.”
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier Sarah Courtney said the new kitchen would provide students with invaluable real-life experience in a catering kitchen.
“The Scottsdale community was one of the first to ask to extend the high school to years 11 and 12 and the Trade Skills Centre perfectly complements this extension of education and skills attainment,” Ms Courtney said.
“In addition to developing new skills, this will also create employment opportunities in the rapidly growing tourism and hospitality sectors.”
