With years of dance and cheerleading experience between them, head coaches and co-owners Tanya Lanham and Dee Gillen said the idea stemmed from working on Launceston College’s 2015 production of Bring It On.
“We both realised the joy the kids got out of cheerleading. Watching them accomplish things they never thought they would was really rewarding,” Ms Gillen said.
The school aims to cater for many different ages, from 10 and under through to fun classes for adults. The school will also run a senior squad to perform at basketball games and to compete in Allstar Competitions.
“It’s actually quite physically challenging, but there’s a role for everyone. You have your flying people and your lifting people,” Ms Gillen said.
The owners said there has been quite a bit of interest. For more information, visit Allstar Cheer and Dance Tasmania on Facebook.
