Organised by Ride to School Tasmania and the Bicycle Network, the program works with schools to make it easier and safer to actively travel to school.
“We worked with the school earlier in the year to find the most commonly used pathways to the school and created three paths that collected the greater volume of students to encourage active travel,” Ride to School Tasmanian coordinator Phillip Joughin said.
Youngtown Primary School assistant principal Nathan Karas said that from 2017, the school would monitor how students travel to school in hopes to increase individual activity levels.
“Active Paths has been great to allow us to include some messages,” he said.
“As you walk some of the paths you see messages like ‘everything is possible’, it’s good to have those messages out in the community.
“It’s been a really good collaborative project between the council, the Bicycle Network and Youngtown Primary School.”
