Those who attended were treated to a world-class performance, certainly fit for Sydney Opera House or even the Royal Albert Hall. We are so privileged to have in our small state such talent and dedication to artistic perfection. Sharyn and company, you have reason to be proud.
Peter Anderson, Launceston.
Australian Christmas
CHRISTMAS Day is a carol written by John Wheeler and music by William G. James, about an Australian Christmas Day, the words of the first verse are:
“The north wind is tossing the leaves, the red dust is over the town. The sparrows are under the eaves, and the grass in the paddock is brown. As we lift our voices and sing to the Christ child our heavenly King.”
It is wonderful, but is seldom if ever sung or heard. Instead, we have and are hung up on totally meaningless snow, holly, sleigh rides, a white Christmas, reindeer, jingle bells, chestnuts roasting and deep mid-winter; as on a very hot day, we try to eat totally inappropriate hot roast meats and plum pudding. This Christmas let’s be Australian for a change.
Malcolm Scott, Newstead.
Hospital Treatment
NO-ONE looks forward to being admitted to hospital. But recent letters to the editor (The Examiner, December 3) and Ven Grollmus (The Examiner, December 5), indicate it is not such a bad experience after all.
This is because the treatment and care received is outstanding. Having just spent a short time in LGH myself, I join in the praise and appreciation to nursing staff for their care, consideration, support and friendliness. No matter what time of day or night some attention was requested, it was there, ready, willing, friendly, supportive. Thank you to all the nurses of Ward 5A.
