An EP comprised of covers, and previously released songs given a make-over, The Dream Synopsis is a fine parting gift, if that’s what it is.
It opens with Aviation, which was originally included in the band’s second album, released earlier in 2016. It gives way to a cover of Jacques Dutronc’s Les Cactus, which is three minutes and 21 seconds of fun.
The band continues to shine in its interpretations of Totally Wired and This Is Your Life.
Released almost at the same time as his passing is the band’s cover of Leonard Cohen’s Is This What You Wanted. If anyone had forgotten the power of Leonard’s songwriting, singer Alex Turner reminds us.
Hopefully the EP is a “see you soon” rather than a “goodbye”.
