Some 64 swimmers from clubs around the state will compete in a huge field alongside international competitors from countries including New Zealand and Korea as well as from other parts of Australia.
The championships run from December 10 to 15 at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre outdoor pool.
They provide a training focus at the end of the year after summer regionals and before the sprint and relay championships scheduled for Launceston in February and the age, open and 11 and under championships in Hobart in March.
The largest group is from Hobart Aquatic Club, with 23 entries.
This is followed by HC with 13, Riverside (11), South Esk (9), Launceston Aquatic (5) and Burnie (3).
Extra mile
The first Tasmanian Ocean Swim Series event was held on December 3 at Carlton Park.
It attracted more than 100 entries with competitors coming from Hobart Aquatic, Masters, Tomatoes, Burnie and Latrobe swim clubs and surf clubs.
The next event is at Seven Mile Beach on December 17.
Follow clues
Hobart Aquatic's James Clues broke the Tasmanian and allcomers records for the 11 years 100m long course breaststroke.
Clues recorded a time of 1:23.73 at the southern regional summer championships in Hobart on November 26.
These records had previously stood since David Floyd set them in January 1988 with a time of 1:24.60.
Floyd’s 200m breaststroke record, also set in January 1988, now remains the longest surviving mark in the Tasmanian record books in the 11 years long course male age group.
