In the men’s match played at Invermay Park, South Launceston captain Alec Smith scored a brilliant century of 112 not out to help his side chase down the North-West’s imposing total of 5-262.
That total was built on another century of 134 scored by Devonport captain Miles Barnard with support from Andre de Lange (49) and Neil Flack (43).
Cricket North lost openers Tom Garwood (13) and John Le Fevre (5) to be 2-25 early in their run chase but Smith and Dan Anderson (36) steadied the innings with a 56-run partnership for the third wicket before Rohan Pooley (40) joined him in adding 60 for the fourth to set the North on the road to victory.
Smith’s knock came off 116 balls with 13 fours and a partnership of 88 with Sean Stevenson (38) for the sixth wicket ensured the win.
“It was a really good day for our association and an outstanding game of cricket,” Cricket North captain John Le Fevre said.
“Alec’s century was one of the better cricket innings that I have seen in my time playing at all levels and he looked really comfortable from ball one.”
Meanwhile, at Latrobe, the Cricket North women’s team ensured a clean sweep by winning both their Twenty20 matches against their North-West opposition.
