Basketball Tasmania was preparing for a mass exodus of its nine Tasmanian teams in the annual pilgrimage to Albury-Wodonga for next year’s Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup.
The January 14-22 tournament involves a number of boys and girls under 14, 16 and 18 teams that are eligible under Basketball Tasmania’s future or state development programs.
“There’s a lot of kids going away for the first time,” Basketball Tasmania’s Janelle Richardson said.
North standouts set for the “development tour” include Morgan Lockwood, Lochie Cocker and Aisha Anis.
Richardson said Cochrane particularly impressed at last weekend’s State High School Championships.
“There’s a lot of athletes that we look at as part of the development to try out for full state teams,” she said.
Basketball Tasmania also place no expectations on the state’s results, she said.
“It’s about their development because everyone gets to play – we’re not saying they get the exact same minutes.”
