Mechanoptera – meaning mechanical wings – is a performance based on the Latin word lepidoptera meaning moths and butterflies. It combines the idea of fragility (associated with disabilities) and the strength of the robot to showcase a series of interactions suited to each individual artist.
The five-month-long process involved 17 people, including eight artists.
Director Scott Wright said even though people with disabilities were involved, it wasn’t addressed in the theatre room. He hopes to eventually take the show around Australia.
“Its been a very successful mini series,” Mr Wright said.
