SOUTH LAUNCESTON notched up a much-needed third GNC victory with a big 108-run victory over Launceston in their match at the NTCA No.2 Ground.
Winning the toss and batting, the Knights enjoyed a run fest scoring 9-263, with captain Alec Smith making 83 and coach Mark Nutting 60 not out.
Luke Badham followed up his five-wicket haul last week with 3-55 and Dom Rawlings took 2-47, for the Lions.
Launceston made 155 in reply in 35.5 overs with Tom Bennett top scoring with 73.
Smith backed up his effort with the bat by taking 4-27 with his leg-spinners.
“It was good to get back on the winner’s list after a couple of weeks which have been rather poor for us,” Nutting said.
“It’s good to turn around form and I suppose click with the batting today – making 263 off 50 overs on a pretty good batting wicket and a quick outfield – we were happy with that.
“We were disciplined with our bowling – at one stage Launceston was in a pretty good position with about three wickets down for about 100 and going for about five an over.
“We kept on bowling our lines and didn’t panic and Alec Smith made it a good double with bat and ball by picking up four wickets as well and leading from the front.
“Alec got Tom (Bennett) which was probably the crucial wicket and was a bit of turning point in their innings.”
In North-West matches, Latrobe continued their winning form defeating Sheffield by seven wickets. The Mountaineers made 167 batting first with Gary Miles making 51 and Richard Miles 49.
