Olympians Ryan Gregson and Genevieve LaCaze will return to the Christmas Carnivals series.

The duo on Tuesday confirmed their appearance at the upcoming series, running in the mile and 800m in Devonport (December 29 and 30) and the mile in Burnie (January 1).

“I loved it last season,’’ the 26-year-old middle distance runner Gregson said.

“The atmosphere was fantastic and the locals really got behind the events.

“Hopefully the handicappers get the marks right and I can be thereabouts in the home straight again.

LaCaze had a debut series to remember, winning the 800m at Devonport in just her second pro race of her career.

“Pro running was so different to what I expected,’’ she said.

“The anticipation is what I love the most. Starting reasonably close to the front of the field is a strange feeling knowing I have a lot of quick guys aiming to chase me down in the dying seconds.

“I had so much fun last time so I can't wait to get out there again.”

In Rio, Gregson was first Australian male to make the 1500m final in 40 years where he finished ninth.

Australia’s all-time fastest 1500m runner credited last year’s Tasmanian visit as key to his year.

“The Tasmanian Christmas Carnivals provided me with a few really hard hit outs to get my season going.’’

LaCaze, 27, made the finals in Rio in both the 5000m and 3000m steeplechase, before closing out her year by breaking the Australian record in the latter.

“Racing in Tasmania was definitely a great way to begin the year with some fun and stress free racing. To be back again to finish off the best season of my life feels fitting.

“I had so much fun last time so I can't wait to get out there again.”
