Mr Boehm held the position of administrator for South Australia’s Roxby Downs Municipal Council for 17 years, and resigned from the position in June.
Roxby Downs covers the town of Roxby Downs and the Olympic Dam mine, with an area of 110 km², and an estimated population of 4,484.
Flinders mayor Carol Cox said Mr Boehm has agreed to a four year contract.
“He has primary qualifications as a civil engineer plus post graduate qualifications in municipal engineering, building surveying, local government management and leadership working his way up through smaller councils in Victoria and South Australia,” she said.
“In the interview process Bill also expressed a strong passion and enthusiasm for small communities.
“He with his wife Kaye plan to be on the island in late December.”
Mr Boehm is due to start his new role on January 3, 2017.
He formally replaces Raoul Harper, who was dismissed by the council in July.
