“I cannot recall when a Tasmanian last won a track event at these Championships – if indeed we have ever done so,” Athletics Tasmania’s Track and Field Commissioner, Brian Roe said.
“But it’s no surprise – this young lady is fearless. And she just can’t get enough of her sport.”
Her winning time of 26.87 at Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre today was not only a new meet record but also over two seconds faster than Chelsea ran at the selection trials in Hobart four weeks ago.
Chelsea ran a controlled heat earlier in the day, finishing second to the eventual silver medallist, but clearly had plenty in reserve for the afternoon’s final.
She has the heats and (hopefully) final of the 100 metres tomorrow (Sunday).
