Digital technologies key teacher Andrew McCausland said the students’ made a range of different films in small groups.
“One group did bullying, another did climate change and another did adventures,” he said. The junior filmmakers were given specific rules for the competition; they needed to incorporate glass in their film and keep the length to less than five minutes.
St Anthony’s Catholic School entered five films in the festival. Students were quick to adapt to the editing and filming software introduced for the project.
“”We’ve got green screens around our school, we used green screens, iMovie and made our own music on GarageBand,” Mr McCausland said.
“It was an opportunity for them to learn along the way.”
The festival received a record-breaking 232 entries, which was a 60 per cent increase from 2015.
Premier Will Hodgman was locked in as a key judge, selecting the winner of the Premier’s Award. An awards night will be held on December 7 at the Theatre Royal, Hobart.
More than $13,000 in cash and prizes, and 17 awards will be given to budding filmmakers from across the state.
