Debate surrounding the allegations, which aired on ABC’s Four Corners on Monday, continued for a second day in Parliament on Wednesday. 

Human Services Minister Jacquie Petrusma said all children still in the care of Safe Pathways had been visited this week. 

“There is one additional child who is not in a Safe Pathways placement however does have occasional weekend respite with them, who will be visited prior to their next contact with Safe Pathways,” Ms Petrusma said. 

She told Parliament that concerns had been raised with her office twice, once in August and once in October, leading to a review of the program.

“I have been assured by the acting deputy secretary that every one of these 11 young people has been contacted by Child Safety Services,” she said in Parliament.

“The children are housed in appropriate accommodation, being looked after appropriately. If at any stage we have any indication that any child is not being looked after appropriately, the child will be removed.” 

Premier Will Hodgman told Parliament that he only became aware of the allegations after the reporting of it. 

Greens Leader Cassy O’Connor said she still had a number of concerns over how the situation was being handled.

“We don’t know if they’re living on more than $100 a week for food, we don’t know what their housing is, we don’t know whether they’re in caravan parks,” she said.

“We don’t know how much public funding has been allocated to this for-profit provider.” 

Opposition child safety spokesman Josh Willie said the safety of children was paramount.

“It is concerning that this company has been contracted by the Minister to look after these children,” Mr Willie said.
