Club president Jan Hughes said the win had come as a pleasant surprise for Rotarians and the Scottsdale community.
“We know it’s a great project for our community but the other projects that were involved were absolutely phenomenal, like people who were producing food and feeding 5000 people a month and providing entertainment from whole communities,” Mrs Hughes said.
“It was a real surprise.”
Mrs Hughes said more than 3000 voluntary hours had gone into delivering the project, with plenty more required in the future to maintain the trail.
“I think everybody realised the significance of the project but at the same time we realised how much physical work it would be.
“We're extremely happy with the support we've received from the local community and the local council in bringing it to fruition - it's all those people who have supported it.”
