Judging by a massive boost in sauna sales in the last few years, Australians have embraced the sauna - including the iHealth Steam-Free Far Infrared Sauna.
More than 5000 families and individuals are now using iHealth saunas at home and even more at clinics, gyms and spas.
The benefits include longer life, fewer incidences of stroke and fewer fatal heart attacks, according to a Harvard medical publication.
“The cardiovascular effects of sauna have been well documented in the past. It lowers blood pressure, and there is every reason to believe that its effects are good for blood vessels,” said Dr Thomas H. Lee, founding editor of the Harvard Heart Letter.
According to iHealth there are many more benefits too, possibly stemming from the detoxification effect of sauna.
“Toxins in our system prevent us operating at our optimum level and reduce our ability to fight infection, inflammation and disease,” according to iHealth health and wellness consultant and part-owner Miriam Tyson.
“Put simply, sauna can make you feel fantastic! You feel healthier, more energetic, pain free - and many of our clients insist they have been cured of what ails them.”
Miriam said that in recent years there has been a move away from traditional steam sauna with the discovery of the benefits of Far Infrared therapy.
“No more dousing water over hot coals to produce a fluctuating heat that bathes you in steam, so that you’re unsure whether you’re actually sweating or just plain wet,” she said.

“Sweating is the key to detoxing and because Far Infrared saunas heat your body rather than the air you breathe, a heavy sweat can be achieved at just a little over 50 degrees compared with the 80 plus degrees required in a steam sauna.
Far Infrared therapies are being used for treatments by doctors, chiropractors, acupuncturists and massage therapists. The treatment is even used to incubate premature babies, as well as treat arthritis, joint pain, stiff muscles, injuries to tendons and ligaments, and generally promote faster self healing.
iHealth has literally thousands of stories from sufferers and the health conscious on how their lives have been transformed by Far Infrared sauna.
South Australian Yvonne Whittaker knew that her general practitioner had been using a Far Infrared Sauna, so when Yvonne pointed out that the symptoms of her polymyalgia rheumatica - which left her unable to perform even menial tasks for almost three years - was reduced during summer, she asked whether Far Infrared Sauna might help.
After just three months of sauna Yvonne said she had ceased her drug treatment and regained all function. She also said she saw a significant improvement in her osteoarthritis. Some weight loss was also a welcome side-effect.
A 61-year-old coach at Oakleigh Football Club, John “Dr Death” Brumley, who was contemplating retirement from coaching until knee replacement surgery was a viable option, was also looking for relief.
His wife insisted that he bought the sauna he had been talking about for so long. Now John’s back on the paddock, running around with his team.
iHealth has testimonials from traffic accident victims who could do nothing to escape chronic pain until they bought their iHealth Far Infrared Sauna. There are also similar accounts from people who have overcome chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and polymyalgia rheumatica.
And there are thank you notes from those who were unable to lose weight due to injury or illness, who are now seeing results in days. Melbourne bodybuilder Jake Cosenza uses an iHealth Steam-Free Far Infrared Sauna to “get cut” before his competitions .
