The hub took home the Outstanding Team of the Year award at the 2016 Department of Education RBF Awards.
The awards were held on World Teachers’ Day and celebrate the important work teachers do to shape and support Tasmania’s children.
Ever since the George Town Community Hub opened its doors, the team have continuously worked to help and better their community.
The hub’s Anne Blythman, Barb Larter, Lisa Barrenger, Sophie Flanagan, Peter Parkes, Rob Hardinge, Ali Bell, Trudi Cross, Alex Austin and Barb Parker were recognised for their quality service and responsiveness to the needs of clients.
George Town Child and Family Centre volunteer Vicki Axton was celebrated as one of three Volunteers of the Year for her outstanding contribution to the centre.
Ms Axton has volunteered at the George Town Child and Family Centre over a five-year period and has been an important support for both community members and the centre’s staff.
The Secretary’s Award for Overall Excellence was given to South Arm Primary School teacher Lisa Cook.
The Principal of the Year award for early years and primary was given to Lansdowne Crescent Primary School’s Monique Carter and the secondary award went to Woodbridge School’s Hamish Cunningham.
The Teacher of the Year for early years and primary award went to South Arm Primary School’s Lisa Cook and the secondary award went to Rosny College’s Simone Cunliffe.
Outstanding Young Teacher went to New Norfolk Primary School’s Alison Harvey.
The School Business Manager of the Year award went to Collinsvale Primary School business manager Rhonda Turner and Employee of the Year went to Triabunna District School’s Bill Parker.
Professional Support Specialist of the Year went to Campania District School’s Niki Hussain, the Departmental Employee of the Year award went to blended learning, curriculum services coordinator Tina Busch and the Young Departmental Employee of the Year award went to Elizabeth College network support officer Alex Silsby.
The LINC Employee of the Year award went to Smithton LINC manager Sabena Lund and the Outstanding Use of Innovation or Technology award went to Southern Support School eLearning teacher Chloe Simons.
Volunteer of the Year awards also went to Jennifer Dare from the Clarence Plains Child and Family Centre and Doug McKenzie from Westerway Primary School
