Celebrating Dia de Muertos or ‘Day of the Dead’, Mexican restaurant Holy Guacamole brought face painting, live music and party vibes into the streets for what restaurant owner Freddie Anis hopes will become a yearly event.
“Basically families comes out on this day for their loved ones who have passed away and cook their favourite dishes and celebrate that life, that's what we're celebrating,” Mr Anis said.
“We're putting a bit of a twist on it by making it a party instead of a festival.”
Launceston talent was called upon to reproduce Mexican culture, with tattoo studio Inkorporated looking after face painting and actress and stylist Carmen Foon taking charge of costuming.
“Day of the Dead is very different from Halloween,” Miss Foon said.
“We wanted to have that Mexican flavour to it and for the staff to look more like they were stepping off the streets of Mexico... so that is what I've tried to bring.”
