The Lions lost to Westbury by 71 runs last week with coach Andy Gower saying their batting let them down.
“We’re looking for Tom Bennett and Lachie Newland to come into the mix this week if they are fit and ready to go,” Gower said.
“We were disappointed with our batting performance last week and the top six batsmen are under the pump.
“It is just a matter of guys being patient and spending some time at the crease and we have worked really hard on that this week – we believe our bowling and fielding is up there with the best of them but we just have to fix the batting.”
Gower said the Lions needed to get a win on the board and build some momentum.
South Launceston will play Ulverstone at the NTCA No.2 Ground with the Knights also needing a win after two washouts and a loss to Devonport.
South coach Mark Nutting said they were looking forward to getting a game in and expected to have a couple of forced changes.
Sean Harris and Josh Freestone are unavailable with wicket-keeper Keelan Beattie debuting in first grade and second grade captain Ben Jackson promoted to fill Freestone’s role with the ball.
“Ulverstone are a bit of an unknown for us and we haven’t played them for a few years but as always with coastal teams we expect a tough contest,” he said.
“But we’ve been concentrating on our own game and not so much worrying about our opposition but we need to go out and get a win. We’re into round 4 and we don’t want to slip any further into the season without a win on the board.”
Riverside take on Wynyard looking for their first win after two washouts and a loss and expecting another close contest after playing a tie last season.
Tom Garwood is fighting off jet lag but should come in for Lyndon Stubbs who is away. UK import Jack Williams is expected to arrive next week.
“We're not too worried about chasing our first win, we have a great group of young guys who have stepped up to cover injuries and unavailabilities, if we play well the result will take care of itself,” captain Alex Saunders said.
Westbury will aim to continue their good start after two wins but looking for a better batting performance after last week losing wickets in clumps.
“We dodged a bullet and 120 isn’t going to win many games but we were lucky our bowlers stepped up and made it defendable,” captain Michael Lukic said.
Mowbray travels to Devonport following last week’s bye looking to take their batting performance from round 2 into this game.
Jimmy Storay is in doubt with illness with Jordan Loone, Josh Barron or new player Andrew Loane possible replacements.
