Meceliza Lisa Perez is on trial in the Launceston Supreme Court, charged with wounding.

She stabbed the man near his right hip at an 18^th birthday at Rocherlea in May last year.

The Crown has alleged Ms Perez could have fled the drunken confrontation and did not need to stab her partner to escape the situation.

The defence has argued the act was carried out in self-defence.

Giving evidence on Wednesday, the man admitted he was “a violent drunk” with a criminal history, but said he couldn’t remember getting stabbed.

“I drank pretty much everything,” he said.

“Vodka, Boag’s Red, shots of vodka, Woodstock. I don’t usually drink.”

The 28-year-old smiled at Ms Perez throughout his evidence.

When he first took the stand he even winked at her.

The jury heard the man had been drinking for about 10 hours before the stabbing.

Defence lawyer Julia Ker suggested the man had pushed his partner down some stairs at one point.

The man said his memory was hazy, but suggested that was likely correct.

Earlier in the night, the man had also gotten into a fight with two men.

After the stabbing he continued to carry on, to the point where he was headbutted by a neighbour and arrested by police.

The trial also heard evidence from one witness, who said she was drunk as well, but was concerned about the man’s behaviour.
