Then from out west come reports of big sea-run trout being caught from the Arthur River and Pieman River, where hefty fish chasing whitebait milling below the unbeatable barrier of the Reece Dam at Lake Pieman have been landed. One local advises that outflows through station turbines seem to stimulate angling action here.
With water in Bronte Lagoon and linked lakes remaining high, trout have also been caught along flooded edges. Productive as usual were Bronte’s southern shores, including submerged areas near Woodwards Canal and Bradys Lake.
Young anglers are reminded of the second Junior Anglers Day, this Sunday, October 30. Anglers 17 years of age and younger will have good chances of success on four waters across Tasmania stocked by the Inland Fisheries Service. They will get help on site from experienced anglers, with bait and some fishing gear provided.
All that parents need do is bring children along between 10am and 3pm on the day.
Anglers Alliance Executive Officer Denis Edwards on 0428 841 166 advises of venues:
North: Waverley Lake (near Waverley Primary School) Launceston
North West: Frombergs Dam, Bass Highway, Ulverstone, or at Taylors Dam (opposite Anvers) Latrobe
South: New Norfolk Anglers Junior Pond, 10 Acre Lane, Bushy Park.
More rain in the east has lifted Macquarie River system levels and water has been running over spillways at Tooms Lake, Lake Leake and Trevallyn Dam.
