A film made more than 55 years ago and enjoyed just as much as the first time I saw it. That in no way can be said for the absolute crud served up today as entertainment.
Perhaps it’s just individuals of my era (aged 70-plus) that can appreciate the acting, direction, and story lines of that truly great era of film-making of the 40s, 50s and 60’s and if the television stations showed more of the best blockbusters of those years instead of re-runs from the ABC and crud like The Bachelor and Gogglebox they would would not only be serving their viewers to a feast of excellence, it would pay off with a totally new audience, and culminate in increased advertising revenue, and not just from the same half dozen or so advertisers , shown virtually every five minutes.
Don Davey, Launceston.
MELBOURNE CUP
CAN YOU believe it – it has taken 155 years for the iconic Melbourne Cup trophy itself to be made here in Australia, from, go to whoa, so to speak.
At last we are turning things around when it comes to being 100 per cent fair-dinkum Aussie made, and we may as well start with a cup.
This year’s race winner will receive a trophy well worth running the 3200 metres for, and you can bet your bottom dollar we true-blue Aussies will be glued to the TV or radio when they do.
Robert Lee, Summerhill.
MP ADVISORS
IT IS interesting to see all those Coalition representatives in Tasmania that got rejected by the public at the last election have found jobs thanks to the federal government on salaries three times that of the average Tasmanian worker.
That’s looking after you and the government still claim expenses have to be reduced at any cost, unless you vote Liberal and despite the contribution or lack of that you may be able to offer. Advisors, to what?
