Launceston Chamber of Commerce executive officer Jan Davis said it was pleasing to see a number of businesses win awards in unexpected areas.
“Our overall winner for the year – TP Jones & Co are a well known agricultural company, but not necessarily thought of in the traditional business sense,” she said.
“You’ve got Boags coming through in manufacturing, now I know that was a result of a really exciting program that Boags ran with lean manufacturing.
“They actually changed the way they did business to provide a better product, and put some efficiencies through the business.”
The winners were selected by a panel of judges – and handed down at an awards ceremony at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston on Saturday evening.
Kooee Snacks Tasmanian founder Andy Fist, who won most successful startup, said he was most proud of building a small team.
“When my employees and I get out of bed we’re really excited to go to work, and that’s not something I’ve experienced every day of my career at other workplaces,” he said.
“I think we make the most of what Tasmania has to offer, when I look at the Tasmanian economy, I see that we have natural strengths in tourism and food.”
Mr Fist said he planned to expand the beef jerky company to Sydney and Melbourne, and had recently received his first overseas orders.
