Ms Berasamy relocated from Singapore with her children and enrolled herself in a Diploma of Nursing.
She was rewarded for her hard work this month when she was named International Student of the Year in the higher education VET sector at the 2016 Study Tasmania International Education Shine Awards.
Ms Berasamy said she could not believe it when she found out she had been recognised with the award.
“I didn’t expect it at all,” she said.
Ms Berasamy has always loved being with people, so she thought a career in nursing would be perfect.
“Since I’ve started nursing I’ve really enjoyed it because I enjoy being around people and I like caring and trying to help people,” she said.
“I am a people person and people have been really nice the whole way.
‘Without the support of the school and classmates I wouldn’t be doing what I’m doing now.”
