If something moves forward, something must also move back.
Perhaps one of our world’s most influential scientists, Sir Isaac Newton certainly knew what he was talking about when it comes to physics.
But his globally-recognised quotes can so easily be applied to everyday life.
Every day I seem to repeat over and over to my children that actions have consequences both great and small.
Once again this week we have seen Australia’s current greatest tennis talent make a complete fool of himself during the Shanghai Masters.
The undeniable talent of Nick Kyrgios has been overshadowed by immaturity and a downright despicable attitude towards this great game which has served him so well, making him a millionaire.
So un-Australian, so un-sportsman like!
Many of us, including sporting commentators, took to social media calling on Tennis Australia to stop funding his career, which of course comes from our taxpayer dollars.
There were also plenty of calls from Aussie mums letting us know what would have happen if he was their son!
But for a while, it seemed yet again Nick would get away with the sort of behaviour banned from any children’s sport you can name.
Yes, other greats of Australian tennis were in their younger years labelled arrogant, but never ever did you see the likes of Lleyton Hewitt give up.
That young man left blood on the court in his efforts to fight for every point. There was no “tanking” and no giving up.
Finally it seems the ATP World Tour has responded in the manner it should have some years ago.
Suspended for eight weeks and slapped with an additional $25,000.00 fine.
But if Nick had been sent into “time-out” for bringing the sport into disrepute when this type of behaviour first surfaced, maybe by now the 21-year-old would be the champion he has the skills and talent to be.
Even small children know their actions always have consequences.
You just can’t drift through life behaving any way you feel like and think there won’t be any reaction or fall-out.
No doubt when Sir Isaac Newton came up with his famous quotes that have stood the test of time, he was not thinking of some upstart tennis player from Australia.
And yet again in his words, we can all take advice about… ‘building too many walls and not enough bridges’.
Mr Kyrgios you have eight weeks to build a few bridges because it can get pretty lonely on a deserted island.
And it doesn’t take a scientist to work that out.
