Blue Tier
Water- lifeblood of the Blue Tier. The Blue Tier is the catchment for four pristine rivers, the great Musselroe, Ansons, Ransom and Groom. The Blue Tier is also the catchment for St Helens. Its forests and streams filtering and purifying the town’s water supply doing the job of millions of dollars worth of infrastructure. Any logging will compromise this precious resource. Sediment may even affect fishing for tourists and locals in the, at present clear, Georges Bay.

Irish Soldiers
REGARDING The Examiner (October 13) the Irish police wore black when I left Ireland. The Black and Tans were released from Aldershot, that being the army prison. They went to Ireland to quell the Irish insurgents, as at the time Ireland was fighting for a freedom from the English as England was then the ruler of Ireland. Irish soldiers worn green. The Black and Tans were remnants from World War I.

American Election
I WATCHED the second debate of the US election with horror, I had no idea two grown people could be so unpleasant to one another. A friend suggested that Congress proclaim a state of emergency and extend President Barack Obama’s term by a year and that two new candidates be selected. I realise that it is impossible. If and when Australia becomes a Republic on no account must we have an American-style presidential election. Thank God for The Queen, our Head of State.

Emerging Future Energy
THE article by Michelle Wisbey (The Examiner, October 17). The proposal supports my article “Under water turbines” (The Examiner, January 17, 2014). Recent strong push for a barrage downstream from the Batman Bridge brings conflicting benefits into discussion. Who is the governing body and who decides the final outcome? The long-term cost benefit studies from both proposals will add further interest.
