It hasn’t been the best 24 hours for the band – they woke up to a smashed rear window in their van, which then decided to overheat.

But their spirits are still high, either through delirium, passion or a pizza-fueled combination of both.

“We figured out we’ve been on tour since the first week of August, and we don’t get home until November,” singer-guitarist Ben David said.

Their current tour is to promote their recently released EP I Freak Out. It’s off the back of a national tour supporting Tassie’s Luca Brasi.

The EP tour is set to wrap up in Launceston on the first weekend of November at Til The Wheels Fall Off, the three-day punk music festival organised by Luca’s Tyler Richardson and Patrick Marshall.

“This will actually be my third time at (the festival) – we played last year and I played solo in its first year,” David said.

With their roots in Adelaide, David said The Hard Aches were a kindred spirit to Tasmanian music fans, with both locations frequently skipped on national or festival tours.

They’re making the effort and detours on this tour to play gigs in some of Australia’s lesser toured towns.

“Smaller towns tend to go off (at shows). But Tassie is a very interesting place to play, there’s something in the water for sure,” David said.

A recent Hard Aches gig in Newcastle was at the centre of an article earlier this week that called out violent punters.

Once again, as read the blog post, a show was disturbed by some audience members turning to violence.

David confirmed the incident, saying “some dudes decided to punch on” with the band stopped playing mid-set, immediately kicking out the offenders.

“There is no time or place for (fights), and definitely not at a f****ing show,” he said.

“But it’s really heartening as a band to have everyone coming together, looking out for each other, and saying this is not ok.”
