Situated at the intersection of St Helens Point Road and the Tasman Highway, the revamped area pairs playground staples such as slides and swings with a variety of natural elements such as sand, grass and rocks. 

Designer Karen Johnson said the playground was created with the aim of allowing children to engage with nature in a “stimulating and safe environment”.

“There is a real shift towards natural outdoor play spaces because these types of areas provide stimulating play, learning and development opportunities,” Ms Johnson said.

“I believe, and research shows, providing natural outdoor spaces for children is vital to their good health and the health of our planet.”

Break O’Day mayor Mick Tucker said feedback from the playground’s first users had been positive. 

“One of our area’s biggest attractions is our natural environment so a playground of this nature seemed not only ideal but based on the developmental attributes, the perfect choice,” Cr Tucker said.

The playground is wheelchair-friendly and includes a basket swing which is suitable for all ages.
