Football Federation Tasmania CEO Mike Palmer said while the league was locked into having eight teams for the next two seasons, there were discussions going on about what it should look like in the future.
“A document has been sent out to clubs about a promotion and relegation system and that will be discussed,” Palmer told Fairfax Media.
“There have been two or three other clubs in the North that have made overtures about wanting to be in the competition and four or five in the South as well.
“There is genuine interest from outside to be in it but teams need to meet criteria, both financial and structural.
“I’m delighted that seven or eight teams outside the competition have that ambition.”
It is understood both Launceston United, based at Birch Avenue, and Riverside, at Windsor Park, have an interest in joining cross-town neighbours Launceston City and Northern Rangers in the state league.
Reigning champions Devonport are the only existing North-West team with Clarence, Hobart Zebras, Kingborough, South Hobart and Olympia making up the Southern contingent.
“The competition at the moment is very sustainable and if there is an increase down the track it would be incremental,” Palmer added.
“Any alteration in a couple of years’ time would be sensibly implemented.”
