The season opener at Carrick Speedway may have been advertised as a club level race meeting but it was action packed all night.

The junior sedans provided some amazing racing, with many first year drivers in a good field of 16 cars.

These new drivers played a crucial part in the outcome of the battle between Joe Dickerson and Ellis Dickenson in the final. Dickenson made the better start from the outside of the front row but Dickerson was able to affect a passing move in lapped traffic to take victory.

Clair Coleman drove strongly for a well-deserved third place, fending off some strong challenges to earn herself the driver of the night distinction.

The street stock action was hard and fast with a dominating performance by Corey Bauld. Ben Riley was able to close up in traffic but was unable to pass as Dale Riley Jr took third.

The wingless sprints also provided plenty of action with competitors eager to complete some racing miles on the track that will host the Australian championship in February. Brad Whitchurch excelled on his home track ahead of Jack Crossin and Brad Herbert.

The Formula 500 final was dominated by Dylan Beveridge who powered away early in the final to establish a lead that was never given serious challenge. Good racing behind him saw Rick Weatherill finish second ahead of driver Gary Sutcliffe.

A strong field of AMCA cars saw Craig Bagorski take the win after a spin by Daniel Brooks saw him relegated to the rear of the field. Andrew Ryder and Adrian Bassett rounded out the podium

Although only a small field, modifieds showed that old age and experience can overcome youthful exuberance with Marco Taurian beating Jake Taurian to the chequered flag with Josh Marston finishing a close third.

The Tassie sixes final was won by Todd Russell who was challenged throughout the closing stages by Drew Manser with Mick Davey third.

Next weekend the action continues at Latrobe speedway.
