Launceston’s St Patrick’s College had a successful day as the Sports Association of Tasmanian Independent Schools held their state athletics carnival at the St Leonards Athletics Centre on Saturday.

St Pats claimed five of the nine senior shields up for grabs at the carnival which involved 18 independent schools from across the state with about 900 athletes competing.
St Patrick’s College won the girls’ senior shield (145 points) from Guilford Young College (139) and Scotch Oakburn College (127).
They topped the points in the girls’ aggregate shield on 560 from St Mary’s College (491) and Fahan on 481. In the co-ed senior shield St Pats scored 198 points to just beat Guilford Young College 197 and Scotch Oakburn College on 179.
They added the co-ed junior shield to their trophy cabinet with 950 points from Launceston Church Grammar on 795 and Scotch Oakburn on 763. And in the co-ed aggregate shield they triumphed on 789 points from Scotch Oakburn College on 641 and Launceston Church Grammar on 627.
Hutchins school won the senior boys’ shield and the boys’ aggregate shield while St Mary’s College took home the girls’ junior shield and St Virgil’s College claimed the boys’ junior shield.
Six SATIS records were set on the day.
Collegiate’s Jane Hickie set a mark of 5.50 metres in the girls’ under-16 long jump beating the old mark of 5.42m.
Scotch Oakburn College athlete Danieka Wagner etched her name in the record books with a throw of 11.88m in the girls’ under-15 shot put eclipsing the former record of 11.36m.
Hutchins runner Jagga Pybus set a time of 13.92 seconds in the boys’ under-15 100m hurdles well ahead of the previous record of 14.52.
St Mary’s College student Grace Jacobson set her record of 5.56m in the girls’ under-15 long jump breaking the meet record of 5.32m.
St Patricks College runner Emma Potter set a mark of 13.95 seconds in the girls’ under-13 80m hurdles to join the record breakers. In the relays, the St Virgils College team set a new record of 48.86 in the boys’ under-13, 4 x 100m relay.
