“Last year we had 2,000 public votes with 32 entries and this year it has increased to, 66 entries and 4,500 votes.

“This shows that people are interested and invested in innovation, this may have been as a result of Malcolm Turnbull’s statement last year, that “innovation is the driver of modern Australia”.

Mr Tilbury believes that as an island, Tasmania is extremely innovative as they are obliged to do things differently to their counterparts.

“People are proud of Tasmania as an innovative island and the sponsors and public votes are testament to that.”

The 11 categories of the Innovation Tasmania Awards include some of the brightest and best local innovators, startup businesses and government entities.
