Diamonds star and new Collingwood Magpies signing Sharni Layton throws her support behind more top-level netball in Tasmania

She’s loud and vocal, but it’s those traits that ever-popular Sharni Layton wants to bring more of to Tasmania.

The defender has thrown support behind more Tests for the Silverdome, bringing a Collingwood netball fixture to the state and for Tassie’s inclusion back into the ANL under a Magpies moniker.

Netball Tasmania entered a partnership with Collingwood this year and Layton is one of six Diamonds signed with the new NNL club.

“I think the opportunity for us to come down here is amazing,” Layton said.

“Not only with the Diamonds, but what we’ve seen in the AFL with the Hawks getting a great support base.

“So think in regards of Collingwood netball coming down here as well is just really exciting in having that support of Tasmania behind us.”

Layton said she “just loves Tasmania” and hopes a state feeder club deal can be inked to Melbourne’s second side.

“I think that’ll be awesome because these girls deserve more of an opportunity than anyone else in Australia, not having had a team here for a while,” she said.
