Launceston-based Productive Pursuit Records will take over the Royal Oak this weekend for a show that’s been a few months in the making.
The label’s Brody Postuma said the DIY digital punk label was started to fill a gap in Launceston’s music scene.
It works on a pay-what-you-want basis, where consumers can name their price to download a band’s music.
“No one was really doing anything like this up here,” Posthuma said, adding that similar sites did exist in Hobart.
He said it was about putting the music back in the hands of the artists and the listeners, and removing it from the commercialised sphere.
Saturday night’s gig has been a few months in the making.
Originally slated as a launch gig, the stars have finally aligned to see the original line-up of The Sleepyheads, Cape Grim, Squid Fishing, and BrodyGreg perform.
Posthuma said that in the future, he’d like to see Productive Pursuit Records swell its band database, and stage more shows, expanding to Hobart and the North-West.
The label’s debut gig is at the Royal Oak in Launceston on Saturday, October 15, from 9pm. Entry is $5.
