A Hobart woman is one of 13 pro-Palestine activists that have been detained by the Israeli navy while on route to Gaza.
Madeline Habib is part of the activist organisation Freedom Flotilla Coalition whose boat was seized while sailing in international waters.
The group was protesting against Israel’s naval blockade around the Gaza territory.
Ms Habib, captain of the vessel, posted a video on YouTube pre-empting a capture by Israeli forces
The group described the action as a “kidnapping” on their Twitter feed.
A Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman said the department was providing consular assistance to Ms Habib.
“Due to privacy obligations, we are unable to provide further information,” he said.
