People of all ages appeared ready to shake out the winter cobwebs and get back on the water.
The traditional sail past didn't disappoint. With the breeze filling in nicely, conditions were ideal as the juniors in sabots led the 28-yacht fleet past the officials on the pontoon.
The strong attendance led to some highly competitive racing. The sabot fleet kicked things off with Taylor Edmunds taking the first win of the season in Whisper, Ruby Edmunds only 17 seconds behind in Not Today.
Junior sabot sailors Elysha and Liam Jones also put in a fantastic effort sailing together in 2HT2CH.
In the district dinghies division, Walk on the Wild Side (Barry and Magnus McIndoe) won from Alaska (Clair Jackson and Rick Chippandall). For the race board fleet the light conditions proved tricky but all persisted with Sam Edmunds finishing first and Paul Tenteye second.
The Division 1 fleet proved a bit rusty after the winter break with an incorrect mark rounding leading to one disqualification and a longer than necessary course sailed by half the fleet. This resulted in Ben King sailing Three Kings dropping back to second, and Steve McElwee in Lawless showing his experience to take the win.
In Division 2 Ray Boon in Eppopotumus held off Kevin Lloyd in Next Question and Craig Titmus in Tara.
Saturday will see Tamar Yacht Club opening its season at 2pm, and all are welcome to attend the Beauty Point clubhouse for the sail past and racing.
