ACTIVITIES: Trying to keep the kids busy for two full weeks can be tricky, but there is a lot going on to keep families entertained.
It can be a tough time trying to keep the kids occupied during the long days, so The Sunday Examiner has put together a school holiday survival guide to get you through the next few days until children go back to school for another term.

- If the weather is nice, hit the pavements and discover a different side of your own city by foot. If the kids are feeling extra energetic, take them along the Zig Zag Track at the Gorge for a challenge. More information or walking ideas can be found on the Launceston City Council website.
- If the weather turns bad, spend a few hours at the local LINC. The cosy library space is full of books and activities so kids of all ages can keep entertained.
$10 – $20
- Pack up the car and go for a drive. Head along a road you have never been down before or pick a destination on a map and set off. Pack a picnic lunch, bring some sporting gear or stop at a local cafe and sample the food. Try heading to the Devonport Bluff, the Cottage Bakery at Scottsdale or throw a line in the water at Cressy.
- Invite the kids to run around the halls of Zone 3 Laser Tag. Strap on a vest, grab some friends and prepare for the game. One game is $8 per person, two games are $14 and three games are $17.
$20 – $40
- Take the kids to the movies. Launceston Village Cinemas has put on a range of children’s films for the holidays, including Pete’s Dragon, Storks and The Secret Life of Pets. Prices start at $19 for adults, $13 for children and $16.50 for concession.
- The Tamar Valley Resort Grindelwald is offering a deal for families over the school holidays that is sure to take up a whole day of fun. The resort is offering a triple pass deal which includes access to mini golf, the bouncing cushion and lunch. General manager Damien Pinkerton said it was the perfect opportunity for parents to sit back and relax while the kids burn off some energy. “We’ve had so many kids running around the village and it’s just great,” he said. Tickets are $17.90 for children under 12.
$50+
- Head to Launceston’s first ever live escape room. Take on the challenge of escaping from a room using your problem-solving skills. The sessions take about 90 minutes and the cost starts at $100 for teams. General manager Kym Stone said apart from being great fun, it was a good team-building activity. For more information, visit the Escape Launceston website. Suitable for children older than 12.
- Fly through the trees at Hollybank Treetop Adventures. Prices are $125 for adults and $90 for children for a three-hour session.
