The Garage Sale Trail co-founder Darryl Nichols said the event encouraged reuse and sustainability.
“Despite being something that was really never meant to be more than a local grassroots initiative, it’s grown into a truly national program that’s supported this year by 150 councils nation wide,” he said. Mr Nichols visited members of local councils on Thursday to drive registrations for the event.
He said life-size Doctor Who figurines with a Tardis and miniature cows were among the items up for sale in Tasmania.
“By encouraging people to save their unwanted items from being sent to landfill we’re trying to do something positive for the environment,” Mr Nichols said.
Last year 840 garage sales were registered in Tasmania which sold the equivalent of 5000 shopping trolleys worth of items. To sign up to go www.garagesaletrail.com.au
