Miller will be Athletics Tasmania’s first female figurehead since the merger of the state men’s and women’s associations in 1981 and will join Victoria’s Heather Ridley as female state athletic association heads.
Miller has had extensive involvement in athletics as a participant, administrator and event manager, holds a level two recreational running coaching accreditation and has been race director of the Hobart Marathon Festival.
She holds Bachelor of Commerce and Masters of Sports Administration degrees and has completed post-graduate studies in sports ethics and integrity.
“We are embarking on a period of significant change in the way in which the sport is governed,” Miller said.
“My short term goals are to deliver the new framework and structure that the membership has endorsed. I look forward to continuing the consultation process with the member clubs and our branches to form our next strategic direction.”
Miller extended her thanks to outgoing president Mike Gunson.
