Each morning my very own personal alarm clock goes off just before 6am.

The sun is not quite up but the birds are, and they love to sit on the roof line of our house right outside the bedroom window.
Their cheery little melodies are a beautiful way for me to start my day snuggled in bed thinking of what lies ahead.
However, I only get a few minutes of feeling close to nature before the sound of the cartoons comes blaring up the staircase and into my sanctuary.
Those good old morning animated features seem to overpower my “alarm clock” tunes and overwhelm my brain before my feet even reach the floor.
Thanks to a lovely gift from a friend, the delightful sounds of Power Rangers at the crack of dawn have been replaced by the hushed giggles and squeals of joy from my two youngest children.
Board games….. Boxes and boxes of children’s board games no longer used in one home, are now delighting children in another.
The much-loved boxes are held together with sticky tape, reminding you of the fun had over past decades – and yes, that’s how old some of them are.
Tumblin’ Monkeys, Big Block World Atlas, Hang Man and of course the Super Slide Set II which is - according to the box - both hilarious and intellectual!
But the all-time favourite has been the Pranky Jokes.
My poor daughter… our only girl, did find it rather disturbing to see a mound of “dog poo” on a doona, not to mention the fake vomit on the toilet seat!
Then our poor baby sitter nearly hit the roof with a severed finger dripping in blood was produced as she walked through the door one afternoon.
The iPad battery has run flat, and the Power Rangers have lost their power.
The ‘adult’ lounge room, which I swore black and blue would never have children’s toys in it, well that rule has been thrown out the window as we sit on floor – big people and little people together – just enjoying each other and games the years have forgotten.
Suddenly, I find myself hunting through my own cupboards trying to find the Star Wars Monopoly, the Jenga blocks again.
It’s hard to say how long this will last, but what a brilliant few days have been had living like I am back in the ‘80s.
Nothing flashes or requires batteries, there’s nothing that can kill you and there are no times limits on how long you should allow your children to play these games.
They are just fun.
And a little sweet relief for me at 6am each day.
